The City Inside

Monday's class apparently didn't work out, so I figured that since I was in downtown Minneapolis with some unexpected time on my hands, I'd do a little scouting for a future class excursion. I had planned that we would spend one class exploring the skyway system, the light rail and, time permitting, the Mall of America. As it turns out, we could have spent at least one class exploring the skyway system alone.

I went into the skyway system right around 3:30 and emerged about 4 hours later with a much better understanding of how the system works and a newfound respect and fondness for what appeared to be a city unto itself. The skyway system is a dynamic organism that supports a healthy number of independently owned businesses, and despite it's often sterile appearance, is rich with the characteristics of the city streets outside it's doors.
